Our Approach
Clear Lake and its surrounding watershed hold a distinctive place of ecological and historical significance. Clear Lake itself stands as an international marvel, showcasing unique geological features that have drawn numerous species of fish, wildlife, and plants to thrive in our mountains and waters. The historical tapestry of human habitation in this area spans millennia, with a legacy that continues today, manifesting in the coexistence of seven Native American Tribes alongside cities, towns, and unincorporated communities.
However, amid this rich heritage and natural beauty, Lake County grapples with a spectrum of economic, social, and environmental challenges. These challenges encompass elevated levels of poverty, water quality issues plaguing Clear Lake, a decline in native fish populations, and the persistent specter of wildfires. Our ecosystems and communities have endured historical and recent traumas, and they remain susceptible to disruptions foreseen in an ever-changing climate. In the face of these complex issues, it is imperative that we adopt a holistic and collaborative approach to safeguard the integrity of this remarkable region and to foster resilience among both our natural landscapes and communities.

Our Vision
Our vision can only be realized through the collective efforts of the entire community, involving all sectors ranging from nonprofits like CLERC to government agencies, Native American Tribes, farmers, residents, and businesses. Elevating the legacy of Lake County's natural and economic resources necessitates widespread collaboration among institutions, even those who may not have traditionally been part of community decision-making processes. Together, we have the capacity to act as stewards for our land and waters, thereby uplifting our communities and the individuals who call Lake County their home. We firmly believe that by healing the land, we can contribute to the healing and revitalization of our communities as well.
