Rebekah Shane

Research Assistant

Originally from Los Angeles, Rebekah has always been interested in the ways that human actions impact natural systems directly and indirectly. She recently received a B.S in Biology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is thrilled to be working with CLERC in partnership with the UC Davis McLaughlin reserve to better our understanding of the ways different management practices impact fire risk and biodiversity. During her time as an Undergraduate, Rebekah’s interests led her to investigate the effects of Nitrogen deposition on low nutrient environments, and the factors that result in the maintenance of flower color variation. Additionally, she was involved with the early development of a management plan to protect the birds of the Central Coast. Rebekah is very excited to conduct another season of land management at the reserve where she looks forward to building upon her knowledge of management practices, expanding her plant identification skills, and improving her ability to work with GIS.

A few of her favorite things: Running, surfing, crocheting, writing poetry, painting and listening to Leonard Cohen.
